Woodgate Beach
Woodgate Beach is on the Qld coast just over an hour drive from Hervey Bay and 40 minutes drive from Bundaberg. Woodgate Beach sits within the Burrum Coast National Park. The vista of ocean, sky and sand, backed with paperbark forest that sings with kookaburras, is the perfect location to come on retreat.
The location is extremely beautiful and accommodation and travel logistics present a great opportunity for yoga friends across the country and from overseas to coordinate and plan a yoga holiday.
Our Teachers
Polly
“I have been devoted to teaching for more than 20 years and I continue to be excited for students. People who practice yoga literally feel more alive. They build physical energy and become more creative and happier. Yoga sparks something inside of people. It wakes them up and shows them a deeper and more exciting part of themselves.” Polly has over 30 years of personal practice experience and first qualified with the International Yoga teachers Association in 2001. She later focused her training in the Iyengar method of practice and holds a senior level 3 teaching certificate with Iyengar Yoga Australia.
Vera
“Yoga works through the physical body. In the Iyengar Yoga tradition, the practice invites the mind to pay attention and become quiet. When the mind is quiet the body can respond rather than react. This is the key to a nourishing practice. It is also the key to aging with confidence and living a life of purpose and peace. Every action, every moment of life has meaning. This is what inspires me to teach.” Vera is a long-term practitioner of Yoga and began teaching when she retired from Community Health nursing in 2013. Vera qualified with the International Yoga Teachers Association in 2014 and achieved Level 1 certification with Iyengar Yoga Australia in 2019.
Practitioner program
Students who wish to develop their home practice are encouraged to attend the practitioner/teacher development workshops that are scheduled regularly throughout the year at the Woodgate studio. The sessions are from 12 – 4 on a Sunday. The remaining date for 2026 is October 18. There is also a weekend workshop on Dec 4,5,6. These workshops give students the opportunity to explore sequencing of asana; techniques and the use of props within specific asana; the importance of repetition and holdings and the significance of inverted poses. The key emphasis is how to transition from asana as a physical practice, to practice as an instrument of meditation and personal transformation. Students who participate within these events have the opportunity to register within the teacher training program.
Dates for 2027 are Feb 21; April 18; June 13; August 8; Oct 17.
